Hamilton was fascinated by the process of working with the computer program Quantel Paintbox. He used a video recording of the documentary to review the intermediary stages in constructing his painting The subject , and selected an image to make into a Cibachrome transparency. This formed the basis for several works.?

The process of converting the digital information to print produced a blurry image which Hamilton called the ‘hard copy problem’. He applied cheap enamel paint to enliven each copy. This mirrored the electronic ‘masking’ necessary to isolate areas of the image to be manipulated on the Quantel Paintbox.
