本亞種與原亞種十分近似，惟植物常為小喬木（稀灌木），高3-8米，雌花序具短梗，長(zhǎng)3-7毫米，葉下面淡綠色，僅生短伏毛和短柔毛常無(wú)白色氈毛，易于區(qū)別。又以葉卵形，邊緣自下部以上有多數(shù)鋸齒，上面多少粗糙，雌花序具較短的梗等特征，與細(xì)梗紫麻O. frutescens (Thunb.) Miq. subsp. insignis C. J. Chen不同?；ㄆ?-5月，果期7-11月。
產(chǎn)云南西部至西藏南部。生于海拔（850-）1 400-2 500米山谷林中。錫金、不丹、印度北部也有。模式標(biāo)本采自云南臨滄。
